What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is the ancient healing art of placing very fine needles in specific points on the body to bring about a beneficial effect on the patient’s health. Acupuncture has been practiced in China, and other Asian countries, for thousands of years.
What is Medical Acupuncture?
Medical Acupuncture involves using Traditional Acupuncture points and techniques to treat painful conditions and various ailments in the musculo-skeletal & circulatory systems, while using a Western medicine approach to the assessment of your condition and the acupuncture point selection.
Practitioners of Medical Acupuncture are trained in the methods of assessment practiced in conventional Western medicine disciplines; at Cedar Hill Sports Therapy Clinic, the practitioners of Medical Acupuncture are physiotherapists.
The needles used in Medical Acupuncture are solid, and are made of surgical-grade stainless steel. The needles are sterilized, and are ‘single-use.’ This means that the needles are only used once and then are disposed of after each treatment.
Medical Acupuncture is particularly effective at treating and managing pain, particularly nerve pain, such as sciatica, trigeminal neuralgia and headaches. It is also helpful to alleviate swelling, and reduce elevated tension in muscles.
